Password Generator
Generate a cryptographically random password from clearly selected character sets.
Your input stays on this device and is processed in your browser. How to use Password Generator
- Set the length you need.
- Choose which character sets to include; at least one is required.
- Read the entropy estimate, then copy the password into your manager.
Randomness with visible controls
The characters come from the browser's cryptographic random source, not from the ordinary random function, and the index is drawn by rejection sampling rather than by a remainder. A remainder makes the first few characters of an alphabet slightly more likely than the last few, which is a small bias that a generator has no reason to carry.
Some characters are missing on purpose. Lowercase l, uppercase I and O, and the digits 0 and 1 are left out because they are the ones people mistype when reading a password off a screen or a printout. It costs a fraction of a bit per character and saves a support conversation.
Length is worth more than variety. Adding a symbol set widens the alphabet a little; adding four characters multiplies the work of guessing far more. The entropy figure shown is a deliberate floor, so a longer password reads as stronger for the honest reason rather than a flattering one.
Frequently asked questions about Password Generator
Where does the randomness come from?
The browser's cryptographic random source, the same one used for keys, drawn without the modulo bias that a naive implementation introduces.
What does the entropy figure mean?
How many guesses an attacker needs on average, given the length and alphabet. It measures this password's shape, not whether the site storing it protects it.
Is anything remembered after I close the page?
No. The password exists only in this tab and is never stored or sent anywhere, which also means it is gone once you navigate away. Save it before you leave.
