- Choose the image whose orientation you want to fix.
- Turn it left or right in quarter turns until the preview looks right.
- Check the output dimensions, which swap after a quarter turn, then download.
Correct orientation without uploads
A quarter turn moves whole pixels to new coordinates, so nothing is averaged and nothing softens. Width and height swap on a 90 or 270 degree turn, which is worth knowing if the file is heading into a layout that expects one orientation.
That exactness is also why the angle cannot be typed. Any rotation that is not a multiple of ninety degrees has to resample, giving stair-stepped diagonals and corners that need either cropping or a transparent wedge. Both are decisions this tool would have to make for you.
A photograph that looks sideways may not need rotating at all: some cameras store the orientation as a metadata field and leave the pixels alone. Viewers that read the field show it correctly, and ones that do not show it turned. Rotating such a file here bakes the correct orientation into the pixels for good.
Frequently asked questions about Image Rotator
Can I rotate by an arbitrary angle?
No. Only quarter turns are offered, because they rearrange existing pixels exactly. Any other angle would resample the image and soften it.
Why did the width and height swap?
A quarter turn puts the long side where the short side was. A 1600 by 900 image becomes 900 by 1600, which is the correct result.
Will it fix a photo that looks rotated on one device only?
Yes. That happens when a photo carries an orientation flag some viewers ignore. This tool writes the pixels in their final position, so every viewer agrees.
