Tables and structured records
CSV looks simple until a field contains a comma, a quotation mark or a line break, and then it depends entirely on quoting rules. The parser here follows them, so a quoted address with a comma in it stays one field rather than becoming two.
Every CSV value arrives as a string. A column of numbers becomes strings of digits and a column of true and false becomes those words, because CSV carries no types and guessing them is how leading zeros get eaten out of postal codes and identifiers.
In the other direction the input has to be an array of flat objects, and the header row is taken from the first one. Nested objects have no column to go into, and a row missing a key produces an empty cell rather than a shifted line.
Frequently asked questions about CSV/JSON Converter
How are quoted fields and embedded commas handled?
By the CSV rules rather than by splitting on commas: a quoted field may contain commas, line breaks, and doubled quotation marks, and it survives the round trip.
Which row becomes the JSON keys?
The first row is read as the header and becomes the property names. A file without a header row will use its first data row, so add one first.
What happens to nested objects going back to CSV?
CSV has no way to express nesting. Objects with nested values are not converted; flatten them first, or keep them as JSON.
