How to use URL Encoder and Decoder

  1. Choose whether the input is a complete URL or one URL component.
  2. Paste text and select encode or decode for an immediate local result.
  3. Copy the result or move it back to the input for a round trip.

Percent encoding without guesswork

A URL reserves certain characters to describe its own structure: the slash separates path segments, the question mark opens the query, the ampersand divides parameters. Percent encoding is how a character that means one of those things gets carried as data instead.

That is why the scope matters more than the input. Encoding a whole address has to leave the separators alone or the address stops being one; encoding a single parameter value has to escape them all, or a value containing an ampersand splits into two parameters on arrival.

The most common bug this prevents is double encoding. A value already escaped once, escaped again, arrives with its percent signs themselves escaped and reads as literal text — which is why decoding first, checking what you have, and encoding once is worth the extra step.

Frequently asked questions about URL Encoder and Decoder

What is the difference between a URL and a component?

Complete URL mode preserves separators such as colons, slashes, question marks, and ampersands. Component mode encodes those characters as data.

Does decoding convert plus signs to spaces?

No. The tool follows JavaScript URI rules and leaves plus signs unchanged; form-encoded data can use different rules.

Is the URL sent anywhere?

No. Encoding and decoding run entirely in the current browser tab, and the input is not requested by Qbito Tools.
